چکیده

Several approximate correlation methods have been assessed for bond breaking reactions in BH, HF, and CH4 by comparison to the full configuration interaction limit. Second-order Møller–Plesset perturbation theory, coupled-cluster singles and doubles ~CCSD!, coupled-cluster with perturbative triples @CCSD~T!#, and the hybrid density-functional method Becke three parameter Lee–Yang– Parr have been considered. Both restricted and unrestricted references have been used along with the basis sets aug-cc-pVQZ, 6-31G**, and 6-31G* for BH, HF, and CH4 respectively. Among the methods considered, unrestricted CCSD and CCSD~T! provide potential energy curves which are the most parallel to the benchmark full CI curves, but the nonparallelity errors are fairly large ~up to 6 and 4 kcal mol, respectively!. Optimized-orbital coupled-cluster methods provide superior results but nevertheless exhibit approximately the same maximum errors. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1531658#

The X, B, and B′ states of C2: A comparison of renormalized coupled- cluster and multireference methods with full configuration interaction benchmarks

Unusual bonding and electronic near degeneracies make the lowest-lying singlet states of the C 2 molecule particularly challenging for electronic structure theory. Here we compare two alternative approaches to modeling bond-breaking reactions and excited states: sophisticated multireference configuration interaction and multireference perturbation theory methods, and a more " black box, " singl...

Full configuration interaction potential energy curves for the X 1 S g ¿ , B 1 D g , and B 8 1 S g ¿ states of C 2 : A challenge for approximate methods

The C2 molecule exhibits unusual bonding and several low-lying excited electronic states, making the prediction of its potential energy curves a challenging test for quantum chemical methods. We report full configuration interaction results for the X Sg 1 , B Dg , and B8 Sg 1 states of C2 , which exactly solve the electronic Schrödinger equation within the space spanned by a 6-31G* basis set. Method of Moments of Coupled-Cluster Equations: Externally Corrected Approaches Employing Configuration Interaction Wave Functions

A new approach to the many-electron correlation problem, termed the method of moments of coupled-cluster equations (MMCC), is further developed and tested. The main idea of the MMCC theory is that of the noniterative energy corrections which, when added to the energies obtained in the standard coupled-cluster calculations, recover the exact (full configuration interaction) energy. The MMCC appr...

Breaking bonds of open-shell species with the restricted open-shell size extensive left eigenstate completely renormalized coupled-cluster method.

The recently developed restricted open-shell, size extensive, left eigenstate, completely renormalized (CR), coupled-cluster (CC) singles (S), doubles (D), and noniterative triples (T) approach, termed CR-CC(2,3) and abbreviated in this paper as ROCCL, is compared with the unrestricted CCSD(T) [UCCSD(T)] and multireference second-order perturbation theory (MRMP2) methods to assess the accuracy ...
